Senate of Virginia Minority Leader Thomas K. Norment, Jr. (R-James City) and Senate Republican Caucus Chairman Stephen D. Newman (R-Lynchburg) tonight issued the following statements regarding Bill Stanley’s victory in the Special Election for the 19th Senatorial District, filling the seat vacated by election of Congressman Robert Hurt (R-VA05):

  • Senator Norment: “The people of Campbell, Danville, Franklin and Pittsylvania today made a great choice by electing Bill Stanley to represent them in the Senate of Virginia.  Bill ran a great campaign, and his substantial victory reaffirms voter support for the Senate Republican agenda of smaller government, lower taxes, and creating jobs.  Congressman Hurt set a high standard for service, and with Bill the people of the 19th District will continue to have a strong conservative voice standing up for them in Richmond.”
  • Senator Newman: “Bill Stanley is going to be a fantastic Senator.  His commitment to conservative principles and his consistent focus on job-creation will make him a strong voice for our region.  In the Senate of Virginia, Bill Stanley will be a strong conservative voice for the people of the 19th District.  Senate Republicans are excited about having Bill join our ranks, and I look forward to welcoming him into our caucus in Richmond tomorrow.”
