    • Band of Leaders club raises money for after-school program- Liberty University- Band of Leaders, a Liberty University student-run club that seeks to strengthen its members’ leadership skills through Christian principles, recently raised $1,200 to benefit The Center in downtown Lynchburg. The Center is an after-school ministry sponsored by All Nations Community Church and provides mentoring and tutoring for elementary to middle-school-aged children.
    • Senator Newman Unhappy with Redistricting Plan- WSET-TV- The Virginia Senate passed a new redistricting plan Thursday and Senator Steve Newman is not happy with the way the map is shaping up.

    • Quayle doesn’t want to retire- The Washington Post- Sen. Fred Quayle said he is “disappointed” with the Senate’s revised redistricting plan that collapses his district with that of fellow Republican Sen. Harry Blevins in the Hampton Roads region.
    • New legislative map nudges out Quayle- Tidewater News- The General Assembly’s apparent resolution to its battle over new legislative district lines could force a Suffolk senator out of his seat
    • City looks to bonds to fund new school- Suffolk News Herald- The city has asked state officials for their help in acquiring more money in no-interest bonds to fund the construction of a replacement school for Southwestern and Robertson elementary schools.

    • Energy center ‘tip of spear’ for region- The Gazette-Virginian- County and state officials joined the Halifax County Board of Supervisors, the Board of Directors of the Halifax County Industrial Development Authority (IDA) and energy center personnel in cutting the ribbon Wednesday morning to officially open the Riverstone Energy Center.
