Virginia Senate Republican Caucus

The New Third Senate District

Tue, 2011-05-24 20:00 -- Mike

Like many of you, I have been waiting expectantly for clarity in the redistricting process. It has been a grueling task.  Under the current redistricting plan, the Third Senate District, which I currently represent, has seen some dramatic changes.  The Third District will now include all of the counties of King and Queen, King William, New Kent, Gloucester, the City of Poquoson, and parts of the City of Hampton, the City of Suffolk, Isle of Wight County, James City County, and York County.  CLICK HERE if you are unsure which district you are in under the new plan.  For those that I have had the pleasure of representing in the past, I am honored to have the opportunity to continue representing you.  For those that are new to the district, I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself.

In 1987, I was elected to the James City County Board of Supervisors, and in 1991 I served as Chairman of the Board prior to being elected to the Virginia Senate in 1991.  As a graduate of public schools and the father of a teacher, improving K-12 education has been at the forefront of my time in Richmond.  I now serve as the Leader of the Senate Republican Caucus and I am a member of the Courts of Justice, Finance, Rules, and Commerce and Labor Committees.  I have been honored to serve as a budget conferee as well as consistently being rated as one of the most effective legislators in Virginia.  I will continue to do everything that I can to make certain that we have a strong economy, that we bring jobs to our communities, support our small businesses and keep taxes low.

Our nation and our state are at a crossroads.  We have seen the federal government repeatedly overstep its constitutional authority and explode in size and spending.  I refuse to allow Virginia to go down the same path, and I will do everything in my power to ensure that Virginia remains the best place to live, work and raise a family.

Although there is the potential for slight changes to occur in the redistricting map, please do not hesitate to contact my office at senator@senatornorment.com if you have questions or if there is any way that we can assist you.  I take seriously my job to represent you and I look forward to visiting the many new parts of the district and speaking with you further about our shared vision for the new Third Senate District.  Please feel free to contact me at any time with concerns about state issues or help with state agencies.

Volunteer

It is an election year for all of the members of the General Assembly.  If you are interested in volunteering on my campaign, we would love to have your help. For the next few weeks we will be circulating petitions to have my name on the ballot.  If you live in the district and are able to help, please give my office a call at 757-259-7810 or send an email to casey@senatornorment.com
