WILLIAMSBURG, VA, 4 DECEMBER 2019: Senate Republican Leader Thomas K. Norment, Jr. (R-James City) today issued the following statement regarding the announcement by Governor Ralph S. Northam (D) that his administration would no longer seek federal approval of work requirements for able-bodied Medicaid recipients:
“Today’s announcement was predictable and foreseeable. I know because I was among the 49 Republican legislators who predicted and foresaw this result.
“Every promise made to those Republican members who agreed to approve Medicaid expansion has been broken. As a result, Virginians – and the Commonwealth they fund with their tax dollars – are on the hook for the nation’s most generous Medicaid program and for a scheme that is ultimately destined to fail.”
