WILLIAMSBURG, VA, 26 AUGUST 2017: Senate Majority Leader Thomas K. Norment, Jr. (R-James City) today issued the following statement regarding the passing of former Delegate Lacey E. Putney (I-Bedford):
“It is with sadness that we learned today of the passing of former Delegate Lacey Putney.
“Delegate Putney’s 52-year tenure in the House of Delegates was not only unsurpassed in length, but marked by accomplishment. The embodiment of a Virginia gentleman, he was dedicated to the Commonwealth and an effective advocate for the people he represented.
“As Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee and a long-time budget conferee, Delegate Putney championed fiscal responsibility and was instrumental in guiding the Commonwealth through the challenging budgetary years that followed the last recession.
“On behalf of the Senate Republican Caucus, I extend our deepest condolences to Delegate Putney’s widow, Carmela Bills Putney, his entire family, the House of Delegates, and the people of Virginia.”
