SENATE FINANCE COMMITTEE APPROVES CONSERVATIVE BUDGET PLAN

RICHMOND, VA, 18 FEBRUARY 2018: The Senate Committee on Finance today unveiled its version of Virginia’s 2018-2020 Biennial Budget (Senate Bill 30), as well as amendments to the current 2016-2018 Budget (Senate Bill 29).

The Senate increases funding over current spending levels, but does not include Obamacare’s optional Medicaid expansion plan. It also does not increase taxes or enact “provider assessments” on hospitals.

SENATE REPUBLICANS REPORT ON SESSION PROGRESS AT CROSSOVER

RICHMOND, VA, 13 FEBRUARY 2018: The Virginia Senate Republican Caucus today expressed satisfaction on the progress of the 2018 Session of the Virginia General Assembly at Crossover, the halfway point of the legislative session.

Of the nearly 1,000 bills filed by members of the Virginia Senate, 468 were approved by the upper chamber by the Crossover deadline and will now be considered by the House of Delegates.  Senate Bills 29 and 30, Amendments to the 2016-2018 Biennial Budget and the 2018-2020 Biennial Budget, respectively, will be taken up by the Senate next week.

SENATE APPROVES REPUBLICAN INITIATIVES TO LOWER COST OF HEALTHCARE AND HEALTH INSURANCE

WILLIAMSBURG, VA, 13 FEBRUARY 2018: The Senate of Virginia today approved several measures to lower the cost of healthcare and health insurance for Virginians.  The bills will increase insurance choice for areas with only one carrier, expand the low-cost catastrophic care coverage option, increase the number of waivers for the intellectually and developmentally disabled, and increase competition among healthcare providers.
