Crossover

The latter part of this week at the General Assembly might be compared to the lull before the storm as the Senate and House money committees will reveal their versions of the budget this Sunday.  This comes on the heels of the lengthy “Crossover Day,” the deadline for bills originating in each house to pass or fail.  Those bills that pass then “crossover” to the other body for consideration.

In a few days the Senate Finance Committee will unveil its version of the next two-year budget.  All that I can report to you today is that it will please almost no one.  We are all aware of the dire economic straits in which we find the Commonwealth.  Ironically, when resources are most scarce, the need for services is most acute and the prospects for new funding the most remote.

Senator McDougle’s Power Generation Legislation

This was “crossover” week in the Virginia General Assembly, a busy period when all Senate bills had to be considered and voted on by the Senate before being transferred to the House of Delegates and vice-versa.  From this time forward the Senate will be voting on House bills, which have passed successfully through the House committee process and full House chamber.
